Eight former Indian Navy personnel who had been detained in Qatar for over a year were sentenced to death by a Qatar court on Thursday. These individuals, who were employed by a private firm at the time, were apprehended by the Qatari intelligence service in Doha in August of the previous year.

Eight Navy veterans, namely Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Commander Purenendu Tiwari, Captain Saurabh Vasisht, Commander Sanjeev Gupta, Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Commander Sugunakar Pakala, Commander Amit Nagpal, and Sailor Ragesh, were identified as employees of Dahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services, a defense service provider organization. The owner of the firm, a retired member of the Royal Omani Air Force, was also arrested but was released in November last year.

According to reports from the media, the individuals have been accused of engaging in espionage on behalf of Israel regarding Qatar’s sophisticated submarines, which possess stealth capabilities that render them more difficult to detect.
